The Product Channel Styling Guide for Guest Posts

At The Product Channel, we strive to publish insightful and engaging content to empower our community of product managers. To help contributors match our publication style, here are guidelines for crafting compelling guest posts.

Structure Your Article Clearly

  • Include a catchy title that draws readers in. Get creative!

  • Start with a strong opening hook - an anecdote, surprising stat, rhetorical question.

  • Use short paragraphs of 2-4 sentences to improve scannability.

  • Break up sections with clear descriptive headers like "Defining the Problem" or "Key Takeaways."

  • Close by recapping main points and insights. Leave readers with clear action steps.

Present Information Concisely

  • Articles should be around 1000 - 1500 words to remain focused.

  • Get straight to the point rather than rambling.

  • Use bullet points, numbered lists, and visuals to present information clearly.

  • Share specific examples and stories to illustrate points.

  • Frame insights as tips, frameworks, or models readers can apply.

Engage Readers

  • Pose interesting questions to create dialogue with readers.

  • Use analogies and comparisons to explain complex topics.

  • Infuse personality using conversational language and real-world metaphors.

  • Include lessons learned from failures as well as successes.

  • Provide relatable stories and case studies from your own experience.

Format Properly

  • Submit drafts as a Word doc, Google Doc, or Evernote.

  • Include a 1-2 sentence bio at the end highlighting your expertise.

  • Insert hyperlinks when mentioning other products, tools, or research.
